On Sunday morning, six climbers from two foreign expedition teams successfully summited Gasherbrum II (8,034 meters), bringing the total number of climbers who completed the ascent within 24 hours to nine. Marco Catanzaro from Italy, Altansukh Tserendorj from Mongolia, and Dawa Nurbu Sherpa and Mingma Nurbu Sherpa from Nepal, part of the Seven Summit Trek team, reached the summit at 6:50 am.
Additionally, Chris Warner from the US and Chhiring Sherpa from Nepal, members of the 8k expedition, scaled the mountain at 6:12 am and are now returning to the base camp.
The previous day, Kristin Harila from Norway and Tenjen Sherpa and Mingtemba Sherpa from Nepal successfully submitted Gasherbrum II.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway for more than 250 foreign climbers to summit K2 (8,611 meters), the world’s second-highest mountain. Teams continue their acclimatization rotations with ropes attached to Camp 3, while Sherpas stock Camps 2 and 3 with necessary supplies for the summit push.
In a separate initiative, Sajid Ali Sadpara, along with a team from Seven Summit Treks, has embarked on a mission to clean K2.
The team aims to remove fixed ropes and large quantities of frozen garbage from the mountain. Sajid Ali Sadpara, the son of the late Muhammad Ali Sadpara and the first Pakistani to summit seven 8,000-meter peaks without supplemental oxygen and porter support, plans to climb all 14 peaks over 8,000 meters in alpine style.
