Pakistan Beat Netherlands To Keep Alive Slim Hopes Of Qualifying For Semi-Finals

In the Super 12s Group 2 match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, Pakistan’s wicket keeper?batter?Mohammad Rizwan shone with a solid 49-run innings after bowlers controlled Dutch batsmen to assist Pakistan easily defeat the Netherlands.


This was Pakistan’s first-ever T20I victory in this T20 World Cup.? As the Green Shirt’s spearhead, Shadab Khan produced amazing figures of 3/22 in his four?overs. 


Pakistan successfully completed the 92-run chase with 37 balls remaining. 


With a careful 39-ball innings, Rizwan led the team in scoring and was one run shy of his fifty when he was bowled by Paul van Meerkan in the 13th over. 


Unfortunately, captain Babar Azam was unable to reach into the double digit?for the third time during this T20 World Cup after being run out by replacement fielder van der Merwe with a direct hit at the bowler’s end. 


After Babar was dismissed, Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman, who had come in for Haider Ali, partnered for an important 37 runs and brought the total to 53/1 in 7 overs before Brandon Glover caught the Fakhar Zaman?behind the wicket. 


Choosing to bat first, the Netherlands hitters put on a poor hitting display, with eight of them failing to reach double figures. None of the other batsmen were able to meet the challenge given by the Pakistani bowlers, with the exception of a brief 35-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Colin Ackermann and captain Scott Edwards. 


Ackermann led the team in scoring with a careful 27-ball 27, and captain Edwards added 15 off 20. In the 15th and 16th overs, respectively, the pair returned one after the other. 


The first wicket fell to Pakistan’s main strike bowler Shaheen Afridi in the third over as the opener Stephan Myburgh was caught at fine leg by Mohammad Wasim Jr. after scoring 6 off 11. His partner Bas de Leede also had to retire hurt in the sixth over after Haris’ bouncer struck him on the grille in front of his nose.
