According to statistical evidence of population growth in recent years, traffic in Islamabad has increased rapidly, making it difficult for citizens of Bani Gala, Bhara Kahu, and other regions to enter or exit the city.
In this regard, Capt. (R) Usman Younis, chief of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), posted a video on Twitter depicting the construction of the much-anticipated Margalla Avenue in this regard.
The tagline of the tweet that appears alongside the video reads: “A new gift for the people of Islamabad and those coming to Islamabad – very soon InnShaaAllah!”
Although Chairman CDA did not reveal the project’s inauguration dates, the progress indicates that the project will be completed soon.
It is important to note that Margalla Avenue is a 33-kilometre road that will provide an alternative to the Srinagar Highway and make it easier for Islamabad residents to access the N-5 National Highway.
Furthermore, the project would connect Bhara Kahu and Sangjani (N-5 National Highway), making it an important component of the larger Rawalpindi Ring Road project.
On March 20, 2022, last Prime Minister Imran Khan laid the foundation stone for the project. The Punjab Chief Minister, Sardar Usman Buzdar, and the Federal Minister of the Interior, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, along with other dignitaries were on hand to lay the foundation stone for the project.
Moreover, the work on the 11th Avenue project, which will connect the under-construction Margalla Highway with the rest of the city, began last month after the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency approved the project for execution.
On December 7, 2022, a public hearing to obtain an Environmental Impact Assessment was held, and after careful consideration, the PAK EPA approved this project. The proposed project will connect Margalla Avenue to Khayaban-e-Iqbal through 11th Avenue.
It will begin at the end of the currently under-construction Margalla Avenue and end on Khayaban-e-Iqbal between E-11 and F-11. The length of this project is 5.5 kilometres, with three lanes on each side, and a proper interchange will be built on Khayaban
