After first announcing his appointment as a Member (Administration) of the Authority, the federal government has now named Major General (Retd) Hafeez Ur Rehman as Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), according to reliable sources who spoke to ProPakistani.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif reportedly interviewed 22 applicants before deciding on Rehman.
With immediate effect and until further instructions, the federal government is happy to announce the appointment of Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman HI (M), Member Administrator, as Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), under Cabinet Division. The Cabinet division published a notification with this announcement.
As soon as the retired military official accepted responsibility as Member (Administration) PTA earlier today, the Cabinet Division issued an official notification confirming his appointment as PTA Chairman.
The PTA is headed by Technical Member and has three other members: Finance Member, Compliance & Enforcement Member, and Technical Member. The administration, however, just recently chose to add another Member, increasing the total to four.
The Federal Government established the position of Member (Administration) in the PTA, and PTA Acts and Rules were revised to approve the position.
Rehman’s nomination as Member (Administration) has brought the overall number of members of the telecom regulator up to four, with one position now open.
The job of Member (Technical) is unfilled at the moment.
The shortlisting process will begin following the screening of candidates for Member (Technical), according to the authorities of the cabinet division. Officials remained quiet over the timing of the Member (Technical) appointment procedure.
