The federal government has unveiled a comprehensive 10-year strategy to address the severe issue of plastic pollution. The Climate Change Ministry will lead this programme, which will be carried out in conjunction with provincial governments and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

The 10-year plastic pollution strategy aims to reduce the use of plastic bags and other throwaway plastics while encouraging recycling and waste reduction efforts. The administration is seeking comments on this ambitious agenda from trade organisations and the general public.

Moreover, the government’s 10-year strategy to combat plastic pollution is a significant step forward in addressing this challenge. Individuals must, however, actively participate in order to effect substantial change.

People are able to drastically decrease their plastic footprint by employing simple yet effective practices such as using reusable bags, straws, and utensils, in addition to recycling and composting wherever possible.

Businesses may help by reducing their usage of single-use plastics while offering recycling and composting services to their consumers.

Meanwhile, the World Bank (WB) indicated in?research titled ‘Plastic Waste in Road Construction: A Path Worth Paying?’ that new methods for utilising plastic waste in road construction are being investigated.

Plastic waste will be utilised as a partial alternative for raw material as a bitumen modified in the construction of roads, according to the United Nations (UN) plan.

According to the World Bank’s research, the planned international, legally enforceable convention to reduce plastic pollution calls for a whole lifecycle approach that includes both upstream and downstream interventions.
