The Interior Ministry declared that Form B, the identity document issued by the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), especially for children, will now incorporate enhanced biometric security features. These updates will apply to all children above the age of 10 and will include fingerprint and photograph—the main agenda behind it is to improve identity security.

The phased rollout of the new biometric Form B is scheduled to kick off on January 15, 2025. The Interior Ministry claimed that these measures are expected to be helpful in preventing identity theft, document forgery, and illegal activities, such as the creation of fraudulent passports and human trafficking.

Implementation Plan

Nadra will collect fingerprints and photographs of children aged 10 to 18 year at its registration centers in the starting phase of this initiative nationwide. In order to complete this process, children must needs to go hand in hand by a parent or legal guardian, who must bring their computerized national identity card (CNIC) along with the child’s computerized birth certificate, which is released by the union council or town committee.

The new Form B, which includes biometric features, will be mandatory for children aged 10 to 18 when applying for a new passport. The older version of Form B, which lacks biometric details, will no longer be accepted for these applications. Parents or legal guardians are advised to update their child’s Form B through Nadra as soon as possible.

System Integration and Digital Services

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior also revealed plans to integrate Nadra’s identification system with the Civil Registration Management System of provincial governments. This integration aims to streamline data management and enhance service delivery.

Additionally, Nadra is working to improve its Pak ID mobile app, ensuring greater convenience for users. The app will soon enable digital ID services, offering Pakistani citizens a more seamless experience in managing their identification needs.

The introduction of the new biometric Form B reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing the security of identity documentation, ensuring the safety of children’s information, and preventing misuse. Parents are urged to take the necessary steps promptly to comply with these updates.
