Two Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) with advanced cameras have been deployed on a trial basis as a part of the Safe City Project (SCP) in Karachi.

The vehicles are equipped with seven best-in-class cameras, each with a resolution of 12 megapixels. Six cameras installed in these vehicles have advanced features, such as reading number plates and facial IDs.

Moreover, a roof-mounted camera has a 360-degree rotational capacity. Firstly, the vehicles will be deployed in the Defense Housing Authority areas, with every unit staffed by a commandant and a group of three workers.

The commander will have a tablet associated with the cameras and the headquarters as well as the control room.

Currently, these vehicles are positioned in the Defense region, a high-security area of the city. Every vehicle carries a commander and three officials. The commander is equipped with a tablet connected to the vehicle’s cameras, allowing continuous information transmission to the headquarters and control center.

Shahbaz Mughal, who manages Safe City operations, explained that, under the project’s degree, 23 such camera-equipped vehicles will be sent all through different parts of the city, including key highways.

He additionally noticed that the cameras are furnished with night vision technology, empowering them to work productively in low-light conditions. These cameras are explicitly intended to capture detailed pictures of vehicle number plates and faces, guaranteeing high accuracy even at night.

The Safe City Project works in coordination with NADRA and the Excise Department. If a vehicle with a dubious or fake number plate is distinguished by these vehicles, or if a person with a questionable identity is noticed, the pertinent police stations will be promptly alerted.

The emergency response vehicles are also equipped with web and wireless communication systems. In case of network issues, the vehicles can in any case speak with the police headquarters through wireless radios, guaranteeing consistent communication in all circumstances.

As cities worldwide grapple with expanding security challenges, Karachi’s Safe City stands out as a detailed, innovatively progressed solution that promises to redefine urban surveillance and public safety standards.
