The Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH) has become the world’s second hospital to be presented Full Enterprise Accreditation by the Joint Commission International (JCI), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan stated on Tuesday.

The JCI is a USA-based leader that accredits healthcare quality and patient safety in hospitals all over the globe.

“After a gruelling three-week survey in Aug/Sept 2022, our hospitals in Lahore & Peshawar as well as our diagnostic centres in Karachi & Lahore have all been awarded the JCI’s Gold Seal of Approval, the global gold standard for excellence in quality healthcare,” stated Khan, who founded the charity hospital in 1991.

“I want to thank the thousands of people who work at Shaukat Khanum for their hard work and dedication.”

The PTI chief also thanked “millions of donors and supporters who make it possible for us to continue providing world-class cancer treatment completely free of charge to over 75% of our patients”.

“I have always said there is nothing we can’t achieve as a nation if we put our minds to it,” he said.

SKMCH&RC of Lahore, first achieved JCI accreditation in 2018 and re-accreditation in 2021, whereas SKMCH&RC, Peshawar was first accredited in 2019 and underwent re-accreditation in 2022.

Moreover, Shaukat Khanum’s ‘Karachi Diagnostic Centre and Clinic’ got its initial accreditation in September 2022.

The enterprise survey assessed the functions of the Shaukat Khanum healthcare system and its ability to deliver consistent and coordinated care across its facilities in Peshawar, Lahore, and Karachi.

The evaluation process involved a close evaluation of administrative, clinical, and operational areas. The Enterprise Accreditation confirmed that all the operations within the network, from patient care to procurement to waste disposal to facility safety, fulfil the same strict guidelines and standards.

Currently, the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust is found in more than fifty Pakistani cities in the form of diagnostic centres, hospitals, walk-in clinics (cancer screening centres), and collection centres.
