Rawalpindi is all set to revolutionize its public transportation with the launch of Pakistan’s inaugural fully digital transport system.
A comprehensive plan for the digitisation of Rawalpindi’s transport system has been established, the first of its kind in Pakistan, with the goal of significantly facilitating commuters. The project will increase vehicle fitness levels and make travel more comfortable for citizens.
The software for this first digital public transit system in Rawalpindi would be developed by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). This project will establish an e-tag system and control room at the Pirwadhai Bus Terminal.
Complete information about the vehicles parked at the bus terminal will be gathered by this system, including the vehicle’s registration number, owner’s name, colour, details of the fitness certificate, driver’s licence, route number, and tracking system.
The control room will compile all information regarding the vehicles that arrive and depart from the bus terminal. By doing this, traffic and passenger safety will be guaranteed, and only cars that adhere to safety and service requirements will be permitted to exit the bus terminal.
Pakistan is about to reap the benefits of its first digital transit system, modelled after the successful ones in Paris, London, and the United States. If this project proves to be successful, it will be extended to further Punjabi cities.
When this fantastic project is finished, residents will not only be able to ride in comfort but also contribute to an increase in vehicle fitness. Furthermore, online complaints against any public and government transit services will be accepted from the public.

The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary, Rashid Ali, describes the digitalisation and public transport concept in Rawalpindi as a masterwork project for which a plan has been created.
Declaring that the initiative was unprecedented in the history of the nation, he told The Express Tribune that top representatives from the Punjab Transport Department and IT had secured IT facilities from the Punjab Government and would be visiting Rawalpindi on September 2 to complete the project.
