Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared on Wednesday that as part of the government’s austerity measures, federal ministers, advisors, and assistants will not get salaries and other perks. This is part of an ambitious strategy to save Rs 200 billion yearly.
The prime minister announced to the media that all federal ministers would henceforth be responsible for covering their power, gas, and water bills during a meeting of the federal cabinet in Islamabad. The action is a component of the government’s wider initiatives to decrease spending and the budget deficit.
PM Shehbaz emphasised the significance of these steps in addressing the nation’s economic problems, such as the mounting debt and inflation. He stated that the administration was devoted to fostering development and reestablishing economic stability.
The decision to cut ministerial compensation comes amid Pakistan’s continuous economic difficulties, which include a high inflation rate and a huge budget deficit. Many austerity measures, including lowering development expenditure and boosting taxes, have already been put in place by the administration.
All individuals, including government officials, must contribute to tackling the nation’s economic issues, according to Prime Minister Shehbaz. He has asked Pakistanis to adopt a culture of thrift and to cooperate in order to address the nation’s economic problems.
When asked how the cabinet members would survive, PM Shehbaz responded that they would continue to live their previous lifestyles.
He continued that the national exchequer would get the revenues from the auction of the luxury automobiles seized from the cabinet members.
According to Shehbaz, the ministers would only receive one security car per need, and on both local and international trips, they will fly economy class.
He stated that while cabinet members would not be permitted to go abroad with support personnel, they would not be permitted to stay in five-star hotels while travelling abroad.
