At least 91 illegal farm housing schemes in Lahore have been uncovered, most of the schemes are within an 8.1-decimal kilometer radius of the Border Zero Line.
Investing in real state has become most profitable in Pakistan, resulting the growing number of housing societies in the country. There is the need that industry and agriculture may be encouraged so that the main part of economy may flourish and more revenue and employment may generate.
Due to the uncertainty in political and economic condition of the country, the investors found it save to do investment in the real state sector which is apparently risk-free. Apart from the reputed and legal housing schemes, there is a flood of illegal ones.
According to the official sources, only in Lahore, 91 illegal farm housing schemes have been uncovered. Some of these schemes are within an 8.1-decimal kilometer radius of the Border Zero Line. This has created additional security issue.
In the Tehsil Cantt, there are 62 illegal and in Tehsil Shalimar there are 29 farm housing schemes.
According to the section 9 of the West Pakistan Border Area regulation 1959, such developments on border area are prohibited.
Moreover, use of agriculture land for farm housing schemes within an 8.1 decimal kilometer radius is strictly prohibited so as to safeguard the agricultural resources and prevent their exploitation for residential purpose.
