After the start of a ‘grand operation’ against criminals in Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur’s katcha areas, Punjab interim Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi is set to visit the Indus Riverine area to announce a massive development/infrastructure initiative.

According to the details, he will be accompanied by the Punjab and Sindh chief secretaries and police chiefs. Top officers from both governments would visit frontline checkpoints to oversee the massive intelligence-based law enforcement operation launched against serious criminals.

The IGP of Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, said?that the caretaker government had resolved to improve the living conditions of people in Katcha and tribal areas of South Punjab as a long-term solution to clear the area of criminal gangs that had been operating there for the past two decades.

He stated that the caretaker CM would present a large infrastructure development plan in cooperation with government departments and other stakeholders.

He further said that the CM wished to construct more schools, hospitals, and roads, as well as generate job opportunities, to help elevate the socioeconomic level of the people in the kacha districts.

The next course of action and other proposals would be discussed, and the CM wished to enhance security and basic social structure, the IGP continued.

Moreover, Punjab IGP told the media that the CM would also review the front lines of the Border Military Police and the Punjab Police, where law enforcement personnel, which includes the Counter Terrorism Department, special branch, and personnel from various districts, were fighting hardened criminals.

Terrorist organizations are present in the Katcha areas, according to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and they are in contact with anti-state individuals.

Meanwhile, during a meeting to evaluate anti-terror operations in the Katcha areas, the CTD delivered its report to interior CM Mohsin Naqvi.

The audience was informed that for the first time, police from Sindh, Balochistan, and Punjab were working together to combat terrorism.

“More than 11,000 personnel of the Punjab police are taking part in this extensive operation. The meeting decided to set up a permanent infrastructure after eliminating terrorists’ hideouts and vowed that the writ of the state will be ensured in any case,” the CDT said.
