At the moment, one of the most popular websites and programmes is ChatGPT. It has acquired a sizable user base of millions of people worldwide thanks to its extraordinary intelligence.
Concerns were unfortunately sparked by recent occurrences in which hundreds of thousands of ChatGPT accounts were compromised, with India and Pakistan suffering the most damage.
Unfortunately, recent events that resulted in the breach of hundreds of thousands of ChatGPT accounts, with Pakistan and India incurring the largest loss, have raised concerns.
Infected devices with stolen ChatGPT credentials were discovered on about 101,134 devices, according to Group-IB’s study.
According to the research, 40.5% of all instances reported between June 2022 and May 2023 involved compromised ChatGPT accounts, with the majority occurring in the Asia Pacific area.
With 24,925 events, the Middle East and Africa came in second. Europe came in third with 16,951 incidents.
With a total of 12,632 compromised ChatGPT credentials, India was the most severely impacted nation. Brazil had 6,531 incidents, Pakistan had 9,217 compromised accounts, and both countries were close behind. The least number of instances were reported from Bangladesh (2,463 affected accounts).
Data thieves:
Info stealers are a subcategory of malicious software that is intended to gather cookies, browsing history, bank card information, cryptocurrency wallet information, and other stored data from web browsers.
A victim’s device may contain other sensitive information that these information thieves are able to access, including emails, instant messaging programmes, and other data.
Operating without discriminating, this kind of malware can use various approaches, including phishing, to concurrently infect several machines and collect data.
Be careful:
Group-IB advises users to adopt specific security measures in order to minimise the dangers related to compromised ChatGPT accounts. Passwords should be updated frequently, and two-factor authentication (2FA) should be used.
In order to access their ChatGPT accounts, users who have enabled 2FA will be required to provide an additional verification code, which is often sent to their mobile devices.
