The acclaimed Seeds for the Future programme for college students in the Middle East and Central Asia has begun, according to an announcement made by Huawei today.
On September 3rd, 2023, Huawei officially launched the first part of the 2023 Seeds for the Future Programme at the Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha, Qatar.
The regional event, which brings 175 students from the Middle East and Central Asia (ME & CA) together in Qatar for the first time ever, aims to cultivate local talent, share information, raise awareness of the ICT sector, and create a digital network for young ICT talents.
Students from top colleges from the region’s 15 nations, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Oman, Uzbekistan, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Mongolia, and Kyrgyzstan, will compete in the competition’s 2023 edition. This year’s Seeds for the Future programme will feature nine students from Pakistan.
The participating students are from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Karakoram International University, Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Institute of Management Sciences (IMSciences), Karakoram International University (KIU), COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), The University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), and NED University of Engineering and Technology are some of the institutions that participate in the Management Sciences (BUITEMS) consortium.
The company’s major CSR initiative, Huawei’s Seeds for the Future programme, aims to cultivate ICT talent around the world. This competition offers a distinctive platform where these young minds can exchange ideas, network with international peers, and gain insightful knowledge of the ICT industry that will shape their future and encourage their participation in the digital community.
With an ever-increasing emphasis on innovation and technological advancements. More than 15,000 students from 139 different countries have taken part since the program’s 2008 debut. More than 450 high-ranking government officials and presidents of state have supported the programme.
The Seeds for the Future programme will also include the regional Tech4Good competition, which is in its third year and aims to empower and involve youngsters in bringing about positive change in their communities.
Intense training sessions and workshops on cutting-edge ICT, scientific and technological leadership, and debates of global issues will be held this year as part of the Seeds for the Future programme.
Eight outstanding teams of 40 students will be chosen to advance to the Tech4Good program’s second phase, which will take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from September 10–16, 2023. Participating students will present their Tech4Good ideas to the judges.
The winners will thereafter be eligible to participate against other international teams in China at the final global tournament.
The enormous potential of ICT to promote sustainable development will be collaboratively explored by the students.
The winners of the Tech4Good Global Competition will receive an invitation to the Tech4Good Startup Sprint in China, where they will go to Shenzhen, Beijing, and other cities to experience real-world entrepreneurial environments and compete for a startup support fund of $100,000 USD.
