Google Chrome has a reputation for utilizing all of your computer’s memory. It is particularly problematic on budgeted devices?with little RAM, which can cause the browser to crash or freeze the entire system if there are too many tabs open.
With a forthcoming update that would sleep dormant tabs to save RAM, Google will finally take care of that problem. Your system shouldn’t lag as a result of this freeing up of system resources. Such functionalities are already present in other browsers, such as Microsoft Edge and Opera.
This new function was discovered by a Reddit user in the most recent Canary build of Chrome. The toggles for a Memory Saver and Energy Saver mode might be found on the new Performance page in the settings menu
(chrome:/settings/performance).
