Inflation Skyrockets To 26.6% In October Due To Higher Food, Oil And Electricity Prices

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) soared to 26.56%?year-over-year in October, more than three percentage points higher than last month’s 23.18%?and significantly higher than the 9.2%?in the same month last year. 


According to official data, inflation increased 4.71%?from one month to the next in October. 


High food and transportation costs remain an issue in Pakistan, which caused headline inflation to reach a 49-year high of 27.26% in August. 


All sub-indices, with the exception of communications, saw double-digit gains in October, which drove inflation.

  • Perishable food items: 70.47pc 

  • Transport: 53.43pc 

  • Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: 34.63pc 

  • Non-perishable food items: 30.58pc 

  • Restaurants and hotels: 30.38pc 

  • Furnishing and household equipment maintenance: 27.61pc 

  • Recreation and culture: 23.65pc 

  • Miscellaneous goods and services: 22.35pc 

  • Clothing and footwear: 18.28pc
