43 NUST researchers ranked among world’s top 2% scientists

At a significant milestone for Pakistani academia, 43 researchers from the National University of Science and Technology have been added to the Top 2% Scientists of the World 2024, which is listed by Stanford University in partnership with Elsevier.  

This recognition, which includes the world’s top 100,000 scientists, is considered to be a significant milestone for NUST and emphasizes the growing impact of the university in global academic and research fields, notably in areas like engineering, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence {AI}. This achievement signifies a remarkable advancement for NUST researchers who have decided to rise in these global rankings from 9 scientists in 2021, 23 in 2022, and 31 in 2023.  

Along with 43 researchers now listed in the year 2024, efforts of NUST to create a dynamic research environment are highly capitalizing on and playing off garnering global acknowledgment to the Pakistani academic community and highly strengthening the place of Pakistan on the global academic map.  

The recent ranking of NUST globally and 64th in Asia in the Q-S university rankings, where it holds status as a high-ranking research institution, further proves to be solidifying its position as one of the leading universities of Pakistan.

The strong dedication and commitment of the University of NUST to enhance high-impact research has earned its scholars high recognition in international rankings, displaying the capacity of Pakistani institutions and the contributions Pakistan can make to global scientific developments and advancements. Stanford and Elsevier strongly depend on the composite index, evaluating factors like authorship positions and citation counts, and the Hirsch index to deliver a detailed measure of scientific influence and impact. 

NUST’s representation in this list covers diverse disciplines, including materials science, biomedical research, nanotechnology, physics, cybersecurity, and even the humanities. Among the honored scholars are top academics like Dr. Muhammad Shahid, Dr. Noreen Sher Akbar, Dr. Meraj Mustafa Hashmi, and Dr. Rizwan Ul Haqq.  

Notably, 23 of the listed researchers have been among the top 2% for multiple years, reflecting both sustained individual accomplishments and NUST’s supportive environment for scientific research. Their achievements underscore NUST’s commitment to raising research standards and contributing to the global knowledge economy, further enhancing Pakistan’s academic reputation on the world stage.
