The Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) announced a significant achievement in Pakistan’s energy sector with the successful commencement of oil and gas production at the Nashpa-11 well in District Karak, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

`This milestone underscores OGDCL’s unwavering commitment to meeting the growing energy demands of domestic consumers and industrial sectors. OGDCL, in a press statement, highlighted its dedicated efforts in executing exploration, drilling, and development activities with a focus on rapid production optimization.

The Nashpa-11 well, drilled to a depth of 4,485 meters, targets hydrocarbon reservoirs within the Lumshiwal, Hangu, and Lockhart formations. Currently, these formations are yielding 830 barrels per day (bpd) of oil and 1.0 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas.

The produced gas is injected into the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) network. The well is seamlessly connected to the OGDCL Nashpa plant through a 1.8 km flow line. In this collaborative venture, OGDCL holds the majority stake at 56.45%, while Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) owns 28.55%, and Government Holding Private Limited (GHPL) has a 15% stake.

The Nashpa structure first yielded its discovery in September 2009. Currently, out of the 12 drilled wells, 10 are in production, collectively producing 11,300 bpd of oil, 91 mmscfd of gas, and 395 mtd of LPG.

The success of Nashpa-11 significantly enhances hydrocarbon reserves for OGDCL, PPL, GHPL, and Pakistan as a whole, promising cost savings through import substitution and contributing to the country’s energy security.
