Despite the political chaos, the Punjab government continues its digitization journey. The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department simplified the procedure for obtaining NOCs for property sales, a further positive step.
According to details, residents no longer need to visit the department’s branches and wait in long lines as they can now obtain the NOC for their properties online.
Selling properties in the province’s urban areas requires a No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by the Excise and Taxation Department. Every day, the department issues over 1,000 NOCs. Currently, the new system includes records for 40,000 properties. NOCs will not be issued online for properties that have court cases pending.
A portal for applying for no objection certificates (NOC) for plots and other properties in unapproved colonies was launched a few months ago. The news came on the heels of the city developers’ recent back-to-back meetings with cabinet minister Aman Arora.
Consequently, the people of Ludhiana will be greatly relieved. According to businessmen, over 30,000 residents require NOCs. Businessmen are demanding that the state government ensure that these NOCs are accepted by the departments concerned and that the holders receive basic civic amenities.
“We are happy that the state government has accepted one of our major demands that we put forward during our meeting with cabinet minister Aman Arora,” according to the state president of the Punjab Colonisers’ and Property Dealers’ Association, Gurwinder Singh Lamba. People with properties in illegal colonies can apply for NOC and receive approvals online through this portal.
Talking to the media, Deepak Badyal, general secretary of the association, remarked, “We are thankful to the state government, chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and cabinet minister Aman Arora for accepting our demand. This portal will give much-required relief not only to the property owners but also to the property dealers. We also want to draw the government’s attention towards our other pending demands, like reducing the collector rates.”
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has given the Excise and Taxation Department permission to hire for open positions. The department currently has 416 open positions in grades 5 through 15. The department will soon post job openings.
