Yousuf Dewan ties up with Shanghai firm to develop national electric car for Pakistan

Chinese, and Pakistani companies sign strategic cooperation agreement for electric vehicle development in Pakistan. 

Shanghai Launch Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. (LAUNCH) and Yousuf Dewan Companies (YDC) who are pioneer electric vehicle assembly companies in Pakistan, have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Beijing. 

This agreement is a big step toward bringing cutting-edge electric vehicle (EV) technology to Pakistan and promoting environmentally friendly transportation options in the region. In the signing ceremony, Khan Muhammad Wazir, Science Councilor, and Idrees Gigi, Director of Projects of YDC, along with senior officials from LAUNCH, marked the commencement of this exciting partnership. 

Both parties expressed their gratitude to Pakistan’s Commercial Councilor, Ghulam Qadir, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, for their enthusiastic support of these agreements. The objective of this partnership is to promote the domestic manufacturing, distribution, and advancement of electric vehicles in Pakistan, aiding the nation’s shift towards sustainable energy transport, according to a press announcement released here.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) stipulates that LAUNCH and YDC will collaborate on a variety of projects, including the creation of a National Car for Pakistan, the utilization of LAUNCH’s cutting-edge design and technology expertise, the establishment of local assembly operations (CKD) for a variety of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), including models with right-hand drive (RHD) and left-hand drive (LHD), for both domestic sales and export markets,.

An official LAUNCH representative made the following statement regarding the partnership: “We are excited to collaborate with YDC to introduce our world-class EV technology to Pakistan.” This agreement underscores our commitment to sustainable mobility and further strengthens our global presence in the electric vehicle industry. 

Similarly, Idrees Gigi of YDC added: This partnership with LAUNCH represents a transformative moment for Pakistan’s EV sector. By localizing production and introducing the latest electric vehicles, we aim to accelerate the adoption of sustainable transportation and contribute to the country’s economic and environmental goals.
