In a historic first, women cycle squads have been deployed across Lahore’s bustling shopping center to prevent street crimes as shopping activity peaks in the final days of Ramadan. With families rushing to markets for Eid shopping, law enforcement has increased security efforts, providing a safe environment for all the people who love shopping, particularly women.
Strengthening Security During Eid Shopping Rush
As crowds swell in the days leading up to Eid, shopping hubs are often becoming the hotspots for pickpockets, snatchers, and harassment incidents. Lahore police have identified 92 key crime-prone areas and deployed over 1,000 officers, including female officers on bicycles, to tackle the issue by enhancing safety and preventing crimes.
Special security measures have been taken to protect female shoppers.
In a pioneering move, female police officers and plainclothes personnel are stationed at key locations to address harassment and take strict legal action against offenders. The main function behind this is to create a safe, family-friendly shopping experience during this busy time.
