Pakistani blockbuster film “The Legend of Maula Jatt,” featuring hotshots Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, and Hamza Ali Abbasi, is set to be delivered in Indian theaters on October 2, the movie’s director Bilal Lashari confirmed recently.

Released in October 2022, the film is a reboot of a hyper-masculine Punjabi film that captivated watchers forty years before. It has won basic praise as well as done incredibly well in domestic and worldwide business sectors.

Pakistan and India have fought three wars since acquiring freedom in 1947, two of them over the contested Himalayan territory of Kashmir. Political tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors rule their relations, bringing about the minimum cultural exchanges.

The film was initially scheduled to be released in India in December 2022, but the release has been postponed indefinitely. Zee Studios, which holds the distribution rights, had wanted to deliver the film in Delhi and Punjab but stayed quiet following the delay.

While the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) offered no proper comments, sources demonstrated that theater announcements were expected after getting CBFC clearance.

There were earlier reports suggesting opposition to the release of The Legend of Maula Jatt by the Indian political party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), but the Punjab Censor Board was still expected to approve the film.

TLOMJ previously debuted on October 13, 2022, and went on to achieve a notable milestone by earning over Rs 4 billion overall by August 2023, making it the first Pakistani film to arrive at such a figure. With its upcoming release in India, it will end up being the first Pakistani film to hit Indian theaters in over a decade, following Shoaib Mansoor’s ‘Bol’.

Given the film’s huge achievement and elegant cast, Indian fans are eagerly awaiting its appearance in films.
Given its success, there’s an uplifted expectation from Indian fans, particularly because of the film’s best cast and its reputation as a cinematic masterpiece.

A ban on Pakistani artists working in India was put into effect in 2016. In November 2023, the Supreme Court dismissed a plea seeking a complete ban on artists from Pakistan to perform or work in India.

Both Fawad and Mahira have earlier worked in Indian cinema. Fawad was a part of films such as Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Kapoor & Sons and Khoobsurat. Mahira made her Bollywood debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the film Raees.
