The snowfall season is almost upon us, along with winter. The Murree administration has proclaimed a snow emergency on all of the district’s main thoroughfares in light of this. Because of the snowy season, which spans from December to March 2025, authorities have established 19 emergency checkpoints in the hill station.
According to media sources, there would be one officer from each of the 22 institutions stationed at these locations all day and all night. Additionally, following the administration of the district, Rawalpindi sent an extra 100 Civil Defence soldiers to Murree.
- Traffic Surveillance
To control vehicle access, the administration intends to put in place stringent monitoring and traffic management measures. To control the number of cars entering, checkpoints have been placed at strategic locations such as the Islamabad Toll Plaza and the GT Road Toll Plaza.
In the meantime, the administration has organised and supplied a significant amount of salt to the Murree Municipal Corporation and NHA in order to combat the problem of frozen roads. Additionally, the snow-cleaning trucks, which have three drivers each for 24-hour service.

The district government has also placed additional 50 traffic wardens and checkpoints at key locations in Murree, such as Jhiga Gali, Guldna, Sunny Bank, Kashmir Point, GPO Chowk, and Barian, in an effort to better control traffic.
Advice for Travelling in the Snow in Murree
If you intend to visit snowy regions like Murree, keep the following advice in mind:
- Purchase tyre chains prior to departing for any snowy destination. It’s readily available on the market or at our car dealership.
- In our technological age, we can use many apps and Google updates to learn about the next weather days. Therefore, before leaving your house, constantly check the weather.
- Given that water can freeze during extremely cold temperatures, this is perhaps the most crucial piece of advice for you to follow. Because of its anti-freezing properties, the coolant doesn’t freeze at extremely cold temperatures. Put simply, use coolant instead of water and drive with a healthy engine.
- Let me say it again: before you go on a winter vacation, make sure your battery is healthy. Because cars typically take longer to start in the cold, a weak battery will be a major problem for you because it will empty out fast.
- Always reserve your hotel or accommodation in advance, particularly during busy times.
- It will be better for you and your family if you make a U-turn and return when you get close to a hill station, notice a big queue of automobiles and there are no signs of movement. The weather is also awful.
