During a two-day international symposium held at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), experts discussed the various aspects and benefits of robotic surgery, as well as the urge to make it more popular because it hastens recovery and reduces complications.
According to the sources, the first-ever robotic surgery symposium in Pakistan was attended by top surgeons from the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as Pakistani professionals.
It also marked the 1,200th successful procedure at the SIUT’s robotic unit, which officially opened this year.
SIUT director Prof Adib Rizvi, while addressing the session, said that robotic surgery was yet another step forward by dedicated local experts who were not only fruitfully performing state-of-the-art surgical procedures, and also training fellow professionals from across the country and region.
He also?reaffirmed SIUT’s commitment to keeping up with technology and making it available to those in need. The robotic unit is part of SIUTs philosophy to provide health cover free of cost and without any discrimination, Rizvi said.
Following the opening session, there was a panel discussion with international and national experts who discussed the evolution of robotic surgery and techniques in their respective countries.
Addressing the ceremony, Prof. Babar Hasan of the SIUT talked about how meaningful collaboration with international partners can help with the diagnosis and prognosis of the Pakistani population. He further emphasized how the SIUT was assisting in the transformation of healthcare practice.
He added that the institution had simulation labs for teaching new surgical techniques to staff members as well as professionals from across Pakistan.
During the discussion, Dr. Khursheed Guru of the United States stated that the next generation of surgeons could use robotic surgery for achieving better results in prostatic and lower urinary tract surgeries.?
Meanwhile, Dr. Mark Slack of the United Kingdom congratulated the SIUT on initiating this new field of medical technology.
Dr. Rehan Mohsin, Dr. Riaz Leghari, Dr. Shadab Khan, Dr. Arsalan Khan, and Junaid Khan, all from the SIUT, also addressed the ceremony.
