The prototype introduced by Samsung accomplishes a peak brightness of 4000 nits due to microLED display, which is 33% brighter than the OLED display found in the Galaxy Watch Ultra. The showcased display measures 2.1 inches and boasts a resolution of 418 x 540 pixels, bringing about a pixel density of 326 pixels for every inch (ppi). In comparison, the Galaxy Watch Ultra features a display resolution of 480 x 480 pixels, with a pixel density of 327 ppi.

This advancement is important, as MicroLED displays recently lagged OLED screens in terms of pixel density. It is commendable that Samsung has effectively addressed the challenges associated with integrating MicroLED innovation into compact devices, for example, smartwatches.

At CES, Samsung is currently showcasing a microLED display developed explicitly for smartwatches, interestingly, finally providing an insight into the benefits of the innovation in such a small form factor. By comparison, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is right now the most brilliant smartwatch available at 3,000 nits, so the microLED display is a third brighter. Contrasted with OLED, microLED is said to have lower power utilization, higher color fidelity, and, most importantly, a longer life expectancy and enormously decreased probability of burn-in.

Such a bright display would give two main benefits to smartwatch clients. The display would always be legible, even in direct daylight. Furthermore, the very high brightness implies that the display could successfully be used as a flashlight, conceivably making dedicated LED flashlights in smartwatches obsolete. Samsung Display is yet to announce when the panel will go into large-scale manufacturing or which smartwatch makers intend to ship items with this panel.
