he Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) clarified on Tuesday that VPN services were not being blocked in the country.

However, PTA is encouraging IT companies, software houses, freelancers, banks, and other relevant entities to register their IPs for using VPNs to ensure that their Internet services remain uninterrupted in case of any disruption.

According to a PTA news release, the VPN registration process is a “one-window operation” available on both the PTA and Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) websites. The process is free of cost and takes 2 to 3 days.

For uninterrupted and secure online business, PTA advises users to register their VPNs at https://ipregistration.pta.gov.pk.

A group of the Pakistan Freelancer Association PAFLA visited PTA headquarters one day ago to talk over and discuss the facilitation of Freelancers. Chairman PTA Major General Hafiz Ur Rehman greeted warmly to the PAFLA delegation and evaluated that PTA is proactively performing an ease of doing business for the IT sector.

In this regard, IP addresses for VPNs are being documented and registered for software houses, businesses, banks, and freelancers to guarantee that in case of any access disturbance or turmoil in the country, businesses are not going to be affected. VPN registration is considered to be an easy, and free-of-cost process method that takes 2-3 days. The PTA team also talked about the initiatives for the awareness of freelancers and businesses on the subject through interactive sessions, tutorials, podcasts, and webinars.

President and CEO PAFLA Tufail Ahmed Khan valued and acknowledged PTA for offering assistance and taking positive initiatives for seamless communication and uninterrupted connectivity to the freelancers.

This initiative of registering VPN IP addresses by the PTA for businesses and freelancers will pose various positive impacts

  • Firstly, registered VPNs are about to provide a layer of security for freelancers, businesses, and software houses by protecting sensitive data during online transactions by minimizing the risk of cyberattacks.
  •  Secondly, by registering VPNs, freelancers and other organizations would be capable of ensuring uninterrupted access to international platforms and services even during disruptions or internet disconnectivity. This assists in maintaining workflow and minimizes potential downtime.
  • Thirdly, streamlining the VPN registration process to just two to three days makes it more accessible for businesses and freelancers to work securely and efficiently, enhancing a more favorable environment for the IT sector.
  • Fourthly, awareness and campaigns of the PTA through interactive sessions, webinars, and tutorials are anticipated to assist freelancers to better understand the resources accessible to them, improving their knowledge and productivity.
  •  Fifthly, this initiative guarantees that freelancers can depend on stable connectivity, which is considered to be critical for delivering projects on time and getting global markets, enhancing the freelancing economy of Pakistan.
