Ali Amin Gandapur CM of KP, has ratified several major infrastructure projects in Peshawar to tackle the city’s persistent traffic issues. These initiatives include the construction of four new underpasses and the widening of key roads to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.
Construction of underpass at various Chowks:
As per the approved decisions the underpasses will be constructed at Kabootar Chowk, Jamil Chowk, Pishtakhra Chowk, and Customs Chowk along the Ring Road. Additionally, 5 major bottlenecks on University Road—Board Bazaar, Town Chowk, Khyber Teaching Hospital, Iqra Chowk, and Tamuano Chowk—will undergo road widening to accommodate increasing traffic and guarantee smoother movement for commuters.
The Riaz Khan Mahsud commissioner at Peshawar division, along with officials from the Peshawar Development Authority and other relevant departments, recently visited the designated sites for the evaluation of the preparation and planning process. Their visit was aimed at ensuring the timely execution of the projects while minimizing inconvenience to the public.
To further enhance traffic management, the commissioner has also launched an anti-encroachment operation along University Road. He emphasized the need for a permanent monitoring squad to prevent future encroachments and maintain clear roadways. The authorities are also working on a comprehensive traffic management plan that includes both immediate and long-term solutions to ensure smooth mobility within the city.
Commissioner Mahsud highlighted the importance of minimizing disruptions to daily commuters during the construction phase. He assured that careful planning is being undertaken to implement the projects efficiently and effectively. “A full-planned strategy addressing traffic issues from various aspects is under process, and we are pretty sure that these efforts will bring lasting improvements to Peshawar’s Road infrastructure,” he stated.
