During a remarkable occasion at the 129th Boston Marathon, two athletes from Pakistan, Faisal Shafi and Danish Elahi, garnered global attention by setting a distinctive world record after completing the legendary race in the national dress of Pakistan, the shalwar kameez.
Hailing from Karachi, both runners commenced and finished the marathon together, clocking an impressive time of 3 hours and 26 minutes. This accomplishment set the record for the quickest marathon ever completed in a shalwar kameez, marking the first time in history when someone finished a full marathon in traditional garb in less than four hours.
Speaking after the success, Danish Elahi said, “This report is dedicated to the entire state of Pakistan. Placing this milestone in a legendary race like Boston is something we’ll always cherish.”
Shafi added, “We did this to focus on Pakistan’s positive picture, and we can celebrate this victory back home.”
