Since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declined to visit Pakistan for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022, relations between Pakistan and India have gotten worse.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is now thinking about moving its matches for the World Cup 2023 to neutral venues after India decided to play its matches during the Asia Cup 2023 at a neutral venue.
According to reports, the PCB is working on a new plan for the upcoming major match in India that would have Pakistan play its matches at a neutral site rather than in India.
The source further stated that the cricket board had informed the ICC and ACC of its proposal, which might also be adopted for the Pakistani-hosted Champions Trophy in 2025.
India might object to the formula, though, as it would mean that if Pakistan advances to the final, the game would take place outside of India, which could be a serious setback for the Indian board.
Pakistan’s matches in the 50-over World Cup could potentially be played in Sri Lanka or Bangladesh rather than India if the ICC approves the suggested formula.
Shahid Afridi stated last week that if the BCCI is not prepared to speak with the PCB about certain issues, it will have an impact on the relationships between the neighbouring nations, even in the ICC events.
I firmly advise the BCCI against making any decisions in that manner. Before making a decision, they should at least speak with the PCB chairman, the former captain added.
