Pakistan has emerged as the world’s third-largest exporter of sesame, with annual exports exceeding $1 billion.
Federal Minister for National Food and Security Rana Tanveer Hussain attended the International Investment Meeting on Sesame as Chief Guest in Islamabad.
Speaking at the event, he said, Pakistan is the third biggest sesame exporter, and Pakistan’s sesame production has expanded by 455% to 1.119 million tons in five years.
“Sesame’s success features its role as a transformative crop for Pakistan’s economy,” Hussain said, stressing the government’s commitment to additionally boosting production and exploring global sectors of the crop.
He highlighted Pakistan’s remarkable advancement in sesame creation over the past 5 years, noticing a 455 percent increment that carried yearly creation to 1.119 million tons. Export volumes also soared by 327%, arriving at 0.760 million tons yearly, while the export value climbed by 366% to $1.073 billion every year, situating Pakistan as the world’s third-biggest sesame exporter.
Hussain credited the transformation of sesame from a neglected crop into a vital contributor to the economy to its inclusion in the National Oilseed Enhancement Program (NOEP). “This achievement is the consequence of coordinated effort between the federal ministry and provincial agriculture departments,” he commented.

The minister urged partners to focus on further developing processing innovation, enhancing sesame items, and exploring new global business sectors. He also called on the Ministry of Commerce to play a crucial part in advancing Pakistani sesame items universally.
“Expanding sesame production won’t just diminish edible oil imports but also significantly improve the agricultural area’s commitment to the economy,” he expressed, stressing the crop’s strategic importance in supporting Pakistan’s export portfolio.
Meanwhile, Pakistan and Türkiye consented to reinforce agricultural cooperation, expecting to improve bilateral trade and innovation transfer under the Strategic Economic Framework (SEF).

Key agreements include joint ventures for agricultural mechanization, aquaculture breeding, and advanced irrigation systems. Both sides focused on further developing exchange through adherence to International Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) guidelines and working with Turkish investment in Pakistan’s agriculture and livestock areas.
Minister Hussain featured Pakistan’s ability to supply quality agricultural items, including rice, wheat, mangoes, and fruits and livestock products to the Turkish market. The Turkish delegation recognized the potential for expanded economic ties and communicated interest in extending participation.
“Pakistan is prepared to extend trades as well as make long-haul organizations with Türkiye to boost agricultural productivity and economic opportunities for the two countries,” Hussain said after the meeting.
The two nations agreed to foster an actionable arrangement to accomplish these goals, focusing on technology transfer, disease prevention, and improved agricultural trade.
