Pakistan and China have reiterated their dedication to enhancing cooperation in major digital sectors such as 5G, artificial intelligence, and energy-efficient data centers. The renewed push comes under the broader framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which has now expanded beyond roads and energy to accept the digital frontier.
A delegation was from China Mobile Communications Corporation and it was headed by Chairman Yang Jie, visited Islamabad and discussed about various things with the Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja. The focus of the talks was to explore the right steps to align future technological initiatives with Pakistan’s Digital Vision, while deepening the strategic partnership between the 2 countries.
The major highlights from the discussions included the establishment of AI-powered energy-efficient data centres across Pakistan to support the country’s growing data requirements.
These centres are expected to play a crucial role in powering cloud-based services, e-governance and digital platforms, ultimately creating a more connected and efficient public sector.

Both sides also explored partnerships with major Chinese digital content platforms to make improvements in local hosting and reduce dependency on international data routes, which is a highly vital step for both security and efficiency.
There were also discussions on improving AI education and training programs in Pakistan to prepare the youth for the demands of a tech-driven future.
Minister Khawaja emphasized that digital collaboration with China under CPEC is not just about infrastructure, but about empowering people and building a resilient, knowledge-based economy.
