Lahore Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa convened a meeting with Kamran Lashari, Director General of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), to deliberate on the revitalization and transformation of MM Alam Road, as reported by news sources.
The meeting served as a comprehensive review of the beautification and renovation plans for various parts of Lahore, encompassing prominent areas like Mall Road, MM Alam Road Food Street, Gawalmandi Food Street, Anarkali Food Street, Government College University (GCU) Chowk, and Urdu Bazar Chowk.
A significant development discussed during the meeting involves the conversion of open spaces and footpaths on MM Alam Road into a stylish, sit-out food street. This endeavor is expected to expand to other adjacent locations like Main Market, Liberty Market, and Mall One, thereby creating a vibrant culinary scene. It’s worth noting that a similar concept has already been successfully implemented in the food street adjacent to Lahore Fort and Badshahi Mosque.
Additionally, the meeting unveiled ambitious plans for the creation of a park, designed in the fashion of Greater Iqbal Park, on vacant land belonging to the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and the Irrigation Department, adjacent to the Noor Jahan Tomb and Jahangir Tomb. This expansive park is envisioned to stretch from G T Road to the Ravi River, offering a green oasis for the city’s residents and visitors alike.
Furthermore, the meeting emphasized the need for expedited development work concerning the restoration of 12 historic gates within Lahore. These gates stand as architectural treasures, and their restoration will contribute significantly to the preservation of Lahore’s rich heritage and cultural identity.
The collaboration between Lahore Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa and the Walled City of Lahore Authority underscores a commitment to enhancing the aesthetic appeal and livability of Lahore, ensuring that the city’s historic landmarks and bustling streets continue to thrive while embracing modernity and functionality.
