Tesla has reportedly received 50,000 orders for the new Model Y with an updated design in about 24 hours, according to a new report in China.

Last week, Tesla unveiled the mid-cycle refresh of the Model Y in China and a select few markets supplied by Tesla’s factory in Shanghai.

Deliveries are expected to start in March. The new Model Y hasn’t launched in Europe or North America yet, but it is expected to in the coming months.

Tesla’s Model Y Gets a Stunning Update in China

The Tesla Model Y, crowned the world’s top-of-the-line electric vehicle and a steady number one among EV fans, has received a significant upgrade for 2025, with an upgraded plan, trend-setting innovation, and further developed performance.

This updated iteration, codenamed “Juniper,” has proactively appeared in China and Australia, where Tesla’s Shanghai processing plant fills in as the production hub. While at first limited to these locales, the patched-up Model Y is expected to hit UK streets shortly, proceeding with its journey as one of the most sought-after EVs in the world.

Exterior Updates

The updated Model Y boasts a smooth and refined exterior design influenced by Tesla’s “hammerhead” aesthetic. The front fascia includes a Cybertruck-inspired slim LED light bar matched with streamlined headlights, while the back exhibits a full-width light bar with intelligent lighting and bold Tesla lettering. These design changes, joined with a somewhat longer body and more streamlined wheels, add to further developed effectiveness and execution.

The Model Y holds its unique, all-encompassing glass rooftop and deep front windscreen, offering a dynamic and current look with five variety choices, including Glacier Blue and Ultra Red.

Inside

Tesla has introduced subtle yet significant upgrades to the cabin. The acoustic coating on the windows reduces noise for a calmer ride, while milder materials on the dashboard and door add a bit of luxury. Ambient lighting inspired by the most recent Model 3 makes the latest, adjustable atmosphere.

The centerpiece of the interior is the 15.4-inch central touchscreen, presently complemented by an eight-inch screen for rear passengers. This secondary screen offers games and entertainment, guaranteeing an engaging experience for those in the back seats. Front seats presently feature ventilation and warming, while back seats can be folded electronically for comfort.

Tesla has refined the steering controls, keeping a conventional indicator stalk for convenience while changing gear choice and autopilot functions to the touchscreen.

Performance and Cost

The updated Model Y conveys extraordinary performance and range upgrades:

• Standard Range Rear-Wheel Drive: Offers a range of up to 466 km on a full charge.

• Long Range All-Wheel Drive: Expands the reach to 550 km, outperforming its predecessor’s 533 km.

The AWD variation accelerates rapidly from 0-62 mph in 4.3 seconds, an improvement over the previous 4.8 seconds. Charging speeds have also been improved, going to up to 250 kW for the long-range model and 170 kW for the standard variant.

With costs beginning at AUD 63,400 (£31,900) in Australia, the Model Y is set to keep up with its title as a best-seller in key markets, including the UK.
