According to media reports, the Punjab government has directed the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to begin constructing the Band Road T-Junction project.
The provincial government has requested that the LDA contribute PKR 1 billion to the first phase of Band Road development work, with the Punjab government contributing the remaining PKR 2.87 billion. The project will take ten months to complete. It will cost PKR 4.84 billion, of which PKR 3.87 billion will be used for civil construction and the remainder for land acquisition and accessory work, according to the approved Project Concept-1 (PC-1).
In addition, the LDA will purchase 10.5 Kanal land for the project. The project was approved alongside the Samanabad Underpass project, which has already begun and will be completed in 13 months.
The project’s goal is to alleviate traffic congestion on one of the city’s main highways, which is also heavily travelled. The T-Junction will be constructed to handle heavy traffic and reduce traffic congestion.
Last month, LDA presented three designs for improving the area from Babu Sabu Interchange to Band Road.
Design 1
-
- A six-lane, two-way road will run from Babu Sabu Interchange to Ring Road.
-
- The traffic will use a three-lane underpass with a 5.1-metre clearance (bound for Babu Sabu Interchange)
-
- PKR The purchase of the 10.5-Kanal plot of land required for the project will cost $4,959,000,000.
Design 2
-
- A six-lane road with two protected U-turns will connect the Babu Sabu Interchange to the Ring Road.
-
- The project’s estimated cost is PKR 4.104 billion. More than PKR 2.079 billion would be spent on construction, with the remainder going toward purchasing the 40-Kanal plot of land.
-
- A protected U-turn lane will be built on Band Road between the Babu Sabu Interchange and a stretch of road without traffic lights.
