The train service is expected to cater to more than 250,000 passengers daily.
The government has set a three-year target for completion, employing advanced machinery and tunneling technology capable of digging up to six meters per day. The estimated cost is projected to exceed Rs. 600 billion, though a final assessment will be determined after the feasibility phase concludes.
China, Japan, and France’s international financial institutions are interested in supporting the project. A June 2024 transportation study confirmed the viability of a metro line that runs entirely underground. Two days ago, Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving urban mobility by officially integrating the Blue Line Metro Train into Lahore’s transit system.
She said that 27 electric buses had arrived at the launch and set the price at Rs 20 to make public transportation easier. Maryam announced plans to introduce 500 more electric buses by August and expand the Metrobus service to Faisalabad and Gujranwala in the next financial year.
