The Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore is going through significant development, with another terminal set to be completed by September 2026, as per the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). This expansion aims to upgrade the traveler’s experience, lessen congestion, and improve airport efficiency.
The new terminal will present key upgrades, including a sixfold increment for immigration counters and a threefold expansion in baggage handling capacity. Dr. Tauqeer Iqbal, the project lead at CAA, featured the upcoming enhancements: departure immigration counters will increment from 10 to 64, while arrival counters will go from 18 to 80. Moreover, the number of check-in counters, security checks, and baggage conveyor belts will also be significantly extended.
When finished, the terminal will have the capacity to handle over 12 million passengers yearly, essentially easing airport congestion and lessening significant delays.

Currently, 5 to 5.5 million travelers travel through Allama Iqbal Airport every year, with 48 to 55 flights arriving and leaving daily. With international travel limitations lifted, the number of trips to Europe and the UK is expected to rise, prompting an overall increase in passenger traffic.
The expansion is intended to accommodate travel demand for the next 15 to 20 years, guaranteeing improved facilities for both domestic and international passengers, including those going for Hajj and Umrah.
The current airport will be designated for international flights, while the new terminal will cater primarily to domestic flights, with a couple of counters designated for global takeoffs and arrivals.
Passengers can expect the best facilities, like those found at modern international airports, including dedicated parking solutions, better access to departure areas, and further developed boarding bridges.
The project is advancing round-the-clock, with an emphasis on facilitating travel experiences for passengers by tending to significant delays, baggage handling issues, and parking requirements.
