In the face of an ongoing economic crisis in which firms are closing and people are losing their jobs, Jazz, Pakistan’s top digital operator, has upped the minimum wage of its employees to Rs 62,000 from Rs 50,000.
Jazz CEO Aamir Ibrahim made the statement during an interview on Dawn TV’s famed programme ‘Zara Hut Kay,’ when he was invited to discuss Pakistan’s startup culture and the state of telecoms amid the current economic disaster.
When asked how Jazz was able to retain and reward people in these difficult times, Aamir responded, “Our employees are much like our family; just like you don’t get rid of your children in terrible times, why would you get go of your staff?”

“Thank God, high management is not putting any pressure on us, and we have not put any burden on ourselves; instead, we have fostered the growth and stability of our staff.”
He noted that, despite the obstacles, Jazz cared after its staff well this year, raising the minimum pay to Rs. 62,000 per month.
We over-indexed our junior and support staff, in particular, Aamir said, adding that “we offered our employees really decent salaries.
He also remarked that while more senior staff should be compensated for their performance, lower-level employees should not be subjected to everyday kitchen challenges.
Continuing the theme of employee care, Aamir stated that all of Pakistan’s greatest talent, particularly IT talent in analytics, fintech, engineering, and so on, should come and work at Jazz.
“I must create an environment that stimulates people’s minds and intellectual capacities in order to do this.”
“He stated that risk-takers were valued more than those with secure careers and no desire, particularly those who had attempted and failed at something new.
