The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has successfully completed the 10.2 megawatt (MW) Jabori Hydropower Project in Mansehra District, a significant achievement made possible through the province’s own financial resources. This project marks a major step forward in K-P’s efforts to harness renewable energy and boost the local economy.
With the successful commercial operation of the project, it is expected to generate an appealing 71.1 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of less costly electricity annually, which will be fed into the national grid.
An agreement for the purchase of this electricity was completed already with the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) in August. This venture will bring in nearly Rs 405 million in annual revenue for the province, providing much-required financial benefits and supporting future energy initiatives.

The completion of the Jabori Hydropower Project was encountered with praise from key provincial officials. Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Energy & Power, Tariq Sadozai, along with Secretary of Energy & Power Muhammad Zubair Khan and Chief Executive of the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) Irfanullah Khan, hailed the project as a milestone for the region’s energy sector.
They emphasized that despite encountering a number of bureaucratic and technical hurdles, including securing ratifications from federal institutions such as PESCO, The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA], the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPAG), the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC), the project was successfully completed.
The officials also reaffirmed the dedication of the Gov to further developing hydropower resources, guaranteeing a sustainable and self-sufficient energy future for K-P. The Jabori project is part of a broader strategy to tap into the region’s vast hydropower potential. It will minimize overdependence on expensive fossil fuels and providing cleaner, more sustainable energy to the people of Pakistan.
KP has been investing in renewable energy, the success of the Jabori Hydropower Project sets a strong precedent for future projects, offering both economic and environmental benefits for the province and beyond.
