In a move aimed at boosting tourism and enhancing recreational facilities in the federal capital, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has approved consultancy services for three ambitious tourism-related projects: a theme park, a Ferris wheel, and a cable car service.
The approval was granted during the 75th meeting of the CDA’s Development Working Party (DWP) held on Tuesday. The projects are expected to offer new entertainment avenues to the residents of Islamabad while attracting domestic and international tourists.
According to the CDA statement, the DWP approved PC-II for the hiring of consultancy services for conducting feasibility studies and preparing detailed designs for each project. The breakdown of the approved consultancy costs is as follows:
• Theme Park: Rs. 206 million
A dedicated feasibility study and detailed design services have been approved with an estimated cost of Rs. 206 million. This project is envisioned to become a major recreational destination that will complement Islamabad’s growing urban landscape.
• Ferris Wheel: Rs. 61.80 million
A feasibility and design study for the Ferris wheel, costing Rs. 61.8 million, has been approved. In addition to providing expansive city views, this project seeks to become a landmark destination.
• Cable Car Service: Rs. 197.76 million
Estimated consultancy services costing around Rs. 197.76 million will assess the technical and operational aspects of a cable car system, which is expected to provide efficient and congestion-free access to recreational zones while preserving the natural beauty of the area.
An official from the CDA claimed that Islamabad, with its growing population of over two million, is in dire need of modern entertainment and tourism facilities. The city is already famous for its
- Natural beauty
- Calm environment
- Lacks large-scale recreational infrastructure
“People in the city have long demanded quality recreational spots. These projects are considered to be an integral part of CDA’s efforts to change Islamabad into a vibrant tourist-friendly city,” the official said.
The proposed theme park is anticipated to include
- Family-friendly attractions
- Modern rides
- Picnic spots

Meanwhile, the Ferris wheel is strongly inspired by similar attractions in major global cities, is considered as an iconic structure that would offer panoramic views of Islamabad.
The cable car project will not only provide a unique commuting experience but also serve as a scenic route through the lush green surroundings of the capital.
The feasibility studies and detailed designs for all three projects are expected to be completed within six months. Once the consultancy phase is completed, the CDA plans to move forward with execution, subject to funding and further approvals.
These developments are the integral component of a huge effort by the government to
- Enhance tourism infrastructure
- Create sustainable economic opportunities via increased tourist footfall
Transforming Islamabad’s Tourism Image:
With a population exceeding two million and a growing reputation as a cultural and administrative hub, Islamabad is poised to become a premier tourist destination. The planned projects are anticipated to not only enhance the local urban experience but also to position Islamabad as a model for sustainable city development.
The cable car, in particular, is designed to minimize environmental impact, aligning with efforts to maintain the city’s green spaces while boosting tourism.
These developments reflect a strategic move by city officials to diversify and modernize Islamabad’s infrastructure. By investing in leisure and tourism projects, the government looks to foster economic growth, create job opportunities, and enhance public amenities for its residents.
If the feasibility reports confirm the viability of these projects, Islamabad could soon boast a world-class theme park, iconic Ferris wheel, and an innovative cable car system components that together would significantly boost the city’s profile as a destination for leisure and exploration.
