Expected to launch in September 2025, iPhone 17 is rumored to offer stunning upgrades in design, performance, and features.

From its potential groundbreaking design changes to the incredible advancements in camera technology, Apple is promising a phone that could set a new benchmark for the industry.

Up to this point, Apple has succeeded in gatekeeping high-refresh-rate screens for its Pro smartphones, even as its Android rivals have introduced 120 Hz refresh rates to try to lower midrange handsets. Things, however, may finally be changing next year.

As per another report, the entire iPhone 17 line will have ProMotion displays—ProMotion is Apple’s unnecessary brand name for high refresh rate displays.

The iPhone 17 lineup may include several models:

  • iPhone 17
  • iPhone 17 Air/Slim
  • iPhone 17 Pro
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max

iPhone 17 Pro will adopt a design similar to the one found on the Google Pixel phones.

Apple might also be moving back to using aluminum for the Pro models, moving away from the recently used titanium. This could make the phones lighter and more affordable, all while keeping the premium look and feel.

ProMotion on Standard iPhones: Closing the Gap

The rumor, which has been circulating for some time, gained traction recently with claims from reliable tipster Digital Chat Station. The tipster recommends that the regular iPhone 17 could support a high refresh rate, bringing the smooth screen experience customarily saved for Pro models to the standard iPhone. In any case, the specific refresh rate of the anticipated iPhone 17 Air or Slim remains unknown.

Currently, Apple’s non-Pro iPhones, including the iPhone 16, cap their displays at a 60Hz refresh rate, a limitation that lingers behind competitors and feels dated for a premium cell phone. Conversely, Pro models brag about a 120Hz LTPO OLED display, conveying superior performance in gaming, scrolling, and overall responsiveness.

Apple supply chain analyst and leaker Digital Chat Station obtained the data from his leads and shared a post on Weibo. He says that the supply chain material for the standard iPhone 17 series indicates the chance of a high refresh rate.

What the leaker meant by a high refresh rate is still convoluted. The best-case scenario: Apple gives ProMotion 120Hz to all of Apple’s next-year iPhones. There’s also a likelihood that the iPhone 17 and 17 Or more might get 90Hz panels if Apple still needs to gatekeep the advancement to lucrative clients.

It’s been reported before. The 90Hz refresh rate for the basic iPhone 17 will keep the boundaries defined, not exceeding Pro territory. After this occurs, the iPhone SE’s 60Hz display will make more sense as an entry-level feature, and purchasers likely won’t mind that limit in the sub-$500 cost.
