The National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) have declared a crackdown on over-speeding vehicles, and they are doing it to make the roads safer for all of the masses. Under the new enforcement rules, any vehicle caught driving at 150 km/h or more will not only face heavy fines but will also be immediately impounded by the authorities. Furthermore, the driver will face legal action, ensuring that serious traffic violations are dealt with strictly.
This move was taken specially to address reckless driving, which is contributing massively in causing road accidents on highways and motorways. The maximum speed limit on motorways remains 120 km/h, and any breach beyond this, especially at excessive levels, will be met with strict penalties.
Why This Crackdown?
High-speed accidents are often fatal, and these can cause severe injuries and loss of life. Officials from the NHMP emphasize that this is not just about penalizing drivers but about saving lives. The chances of fatal crashes rises when the driver move its vehicles fastly. The authorities hoping that these rules and precautions inculcate a sense of responsibility among motorists and other vehicle owner to reduce the number of accidents significantly.
Enhanced Monitoring & Strict Enforcement
The NHMP has improved its surveillance strategies to check the people. Advanced speed-detection cameras and monitoring systems will be installed along major motorways to catch the rule breakers at the moment. Once a vehicle is caught as not following the rules and exceeding 150 km/h, the police will take immediate action, stopping the driver and seizing any automobile that he/ she is driving.
Authorities have also increased the number of patrolling officers to ensure that enforcement remains strict and consistent. We cannot say this is just a temporary traffic measure—it is part of a long-term strategy to make highways safer for all road users.
What This Means for Drivers
For those who frequently travel on motorways, this new enforcement means that extra caution is necessary. Drivers must be aware about their speed, and they must ensure that they stay within recommended legal limits. Checking speedometers regularly and using cruise control when possible can help maintain a safe driving speed.
Families, professionals, and transporters who rely on these roads for daily commutes should be aware that a single moment of reckless speeding can result in severe consequences—not just financial penalties but also legal trouble and even the loss of their vehicle.
Implications of the New Enforcement
The strict action against speeding carries several implications for drivers and the overall traffic system:
Enhanced Road Safety: The primary aim is to protect lives. With fewer speeding vehicles, highways will become significantly safer for all commuters.
Legal Consequences: Drivers caught violating the limit will not only pay hefty fines but may also face legal proceedings, impacting their driving record and future mobility.
Financial Burden: Heavy fines and impoundment fees will discourage reckless driving. This measure will serve as a deterrent for those who ignore speed limits.
Traffic Discipline: Strict enforcement will promote better driving habits, encouraging road users to be more responsible and mindful of regulations.

Revised Speed Limits
The official Motorway Police spokesperson stated the following:
- The maximum speed permitted for automobiles on three-lane highways stands at 120 km/h.
- The maximum velocity is set at 110 km/h for coaches, vans, and other modes of transport utilized for public transportation.
This initiative is part of a focused campaign against over-speeding vehicles launched under the guidance of IG Motorway Police, Riffat Mukhtar Raja. The objective of the campaign is to improve road safety and mitigate deadly accidents on Pakistan’s highways and motorways. Monitoring of speed on national highways will be intensified. Additionally, safety barriers and fencing on motorways will be guaranteed to avoid mishaps. Ensuring secure travel continues to be the focus of the Motorway Police.
Is There a 25% Increased Motorway Toll?
Earlier this month, the National Highway Authority (NHA) revealed a new strategy for collecting motorway tolls in Pakistan.
As per the latest notification dated January 31, 2025, the NHA will enforce a 100% M-Tag regime on all motorways, making it mandatory for all vehicles to use M-Tags for toll payments.
Starting from February 1, 2025, vehicles that do not have an M-Tag or have a low balance in their M-Tag accounts will be charged an additional 25% toll fee over and above the standard toll rates. Additionally, there will be a base fee of Rs. 50, ensuring adherence to the new electronic toll system.
This initiative is part of an effort to fully automate the toll collection process for highways. This will reduce cash transactions and facilitate smoother traffic flow. The recent crackdown against speeding is a positive move towards enhancing road safety and averting accidents due to reckless driving.
Final Thoughts
Speeding is an easiest way to save time, but the most negative impacts or consequences are associated with it. The NHMP initiative is a step towards creating a plan for providing safer roads for all the masses. Drivers must be aware of their actions also cause impact on the passengers they are traveling wit and other Travellers.
