Thick fog has engulfed multiple regions of Pakistan, leading to the closure of several key motorways. This has caused severe problems and complications for travelers who have to reach their destination on time. Transportation services are also affecting local travellers. Authorities have taken precautionary measures to ensure public safety, temporarily shutting down major routes where visibility has been dangerously low.

  • Sialkot Motorway (M-11) is considered to be the most affected road, which has been completely shut down due to near-zero visibility.
  • Likewise, the Lahore to Kot Momin section of Motorway M-2 has been closed, creating huge difficulties for travelers moving between Punjab’s major cities.
  • The entire M-3 Motorway is also off-limits, while the M-4 Motorway, stretching from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakeem, remains inaccessible as dense fog continues to blanket the area.

Moreover, Higher Up has strongly advised motorists to avoid unnecessary travel during this kind of escalating winter weather, as low visibility increases the risk of accidents. Those who must travel have been suggested:

  • To drive with extreme care
  • Keep their headlights on low-beam
  • Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles

Emergency response teams are on high alert, and weather patterns are under scrutiny by the officials to determine when it will be safe to reopen the roads.

Travelers are receiving the impetus to stay updated on motorway conditions through official sources, including the Motorway Police helpline and traffic advisories on social media. Many have faced delays and cancellations in their plans, with passenger buses and freight transport experiencing setbacks due to the sudden road closures.

Fog is expected to continue affecting visibility as the winter gets more intense, especially in Punjab and adjoining areas. Higher ups are not leaving any stone unturned and trying to mitigate the massive negative impact, but commuters should prepare for possible further disruptions in the coming days. In the meantime, public safety remains the top priority, and officials emphasize that precautionary closures are necessary to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of all road users.
