Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formally inaugurated the Recep Tayyip Erdogan Interchange, in Islamabad’s F-8 sector to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony in the Federal Capital today (Tuesday), he commended Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the Capital Development Authority team, the Islamabad administration and the contractors for the swift completion of the interchange within eighty-four days.
The Prime Minister said future beautification plan and development projects for the federal capital will be undertaken in consultation with the Interior Minister.
He expressed appreciation for the project, noting that it has been completed at a lower than the initially anticipated cost.
In a gesture symbolizing the deep and longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Turkiye, the government of Pakistan officially named the newly established F-8 & F-9 Interchange after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
On Thursday, a ceremony at the House of PM was held, and President Erdogan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif both concurrently revealed the nameplate of the interchange. The project, completed in record time, sits at the busy intersection of Jinnah Avenue and Agha Shahi Road, significantly making improvements in the traffic flow in the capital.
This move reflects Pakistan’s admiration for President Tayyip’s not faltering support and his role in enhancing bilateral ties between the two nations. Both leaders kept on explaining the vitality of continued collaboration in various sectors, reinforcing their commitment to a stronger partnership.

New Agreements to Strengthen Pakistan and Turkiye Ties
In addition to the naming ceremony, Pakistan and Turkiye signed many other Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements to expand cooperation in several key fields, including
- Public relations
- Communications
- Media
- Cultural exchange
- Audiovisual services
Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage, and Culture, Attaullah Tarar, and Turkish Director of Communications Fahrettin Altan exchanged MoUs completely focused on enhancing collaboration in public relations and media communications. These agreements are meant to promote
- Cultural exchange
- Increased media cooperation
- Strengthen mutual understanding
Similarly, Tarar and Hakan Fidan had signed agreements that were all about cultural cooperation and audiovisual services, guaranteeing that both nations could share their rich cultural heritage and foster stronger artistic and media ties.
President Erdogan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif both oversaw the signing of agreements in the ceremony and many other key figures were also there in the ceremony. The event is another step towards improvement in Pakistan-Turkiye relationship.
These new initiatives will help strengthen the historic bond between the two brotherly nations, paving the way for stronger diplomatic and economic ties in the future.
