In a welcome move for public transport users in Karachi, the Sindh government is set to roll out 5 brand-new double-decker buses along with 34 electric buses by June this year. This initiative is considered to be the part of the ongoing expansion of the Peoples Bus Service, intending to modernize the city’s aging and overburdened transport network.

Sindh’s Minister for Information and Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, announced that preparations for the arrival of the buses are almost complete, with import procedures in their final stages. He added that an additional 100 buses are expected to arrive later in the month, guaranteeing a steady expansion of the fleet.

“These new buses, especially the electric ones, are not just a step towards making travelling for Karachi residents easier —they also represent a significant move toward eco-friendly transportation in our city,” Memon said.

The electric buses will assist in scaling back pollution and provide a quieter, smoother ride, while the double-decker buses are expected to offer more seating capacity—perfect for the city’s bustling roads and crowded routes.

Modern Transport, Safer Roads

The new transport services are considered to be part of a broader effort to bring convenience, safety, and sustainability to Karachi’s roads. The government is leaving no stone unturned in taking strict measures on unsafe commercial vehicles currently playing the streets. Plans are under the process to cancel the registration of defective and unfit vehicles, in a bid to make daily commutes protective for everyone.

More on the Horizon

Besides new buses, the Sindh government is all ready to launch the new bus route that will connect the Green Line and Orange Line services. This integration is intended to make travelling all over the city more flawless and efficient.

Meanwhile, in a progressive move to empower women, a “Pink EV Scooter” scheme will soon be introduced exclusively for female commuters. Women who hold a valid driver’s license will be eligible to apply for the electric scooters, promoting independence and mobility for women specifically in the urban areas.

All these efforts highlight a growing dedication to reshape Karachi’s transport future, making it
