Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi announced to lend agricultural lands to 20,000 farmers of Cholistan through a draw.
According to the news reporters, Chief Minister Punjab presided over a high-level session of the Punjab government held on Friday in which he gave a go-ahead to the plan to lend agricultural lands to 20,000 landless farmers of Cholistan. “People of Cholistan have an equal right to their lands”, said CM Punjab.
Further details revealed that during the first phase 5000 farmers would be assigned the lands for five years through a lucky draw, arranged under the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). The remaining 5000 farmers would be facilitated in the next phase of the project.
The CM stated that they are committed to resolving all the issues of Cholistan farmers on a priority basis. Citizens of Cholistan have the first right to their lands, and this initiative would help and uplift the poor landless farmers of the area, he added.
The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to the CM Dr. Muhammad Afzal, MPA Muhammad Ahsan, and Seniors members of the Board of Revenue, while Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur joined in via video link.
Moreover, Parvez Elahi also announced an Rs 1 million grant for flood victims who have lost their homes in the southern parts of the province.
Talking to the media, CM Punjab said that Sania Nishtar will be supervising the distribution of relief goods and funds in the province. “I have talked to Sania Nishtar and she approved giving homes to affectees on a 40 percent relief.”
He added that other than grants for the construction of homes, the flood affectees who lost their livestock will be provided Rs75000 for each animal. “The farmers will also be given solar pumps.”
Meanwhile, sharing his accomplishments during the incumbent tenure, Pervaiz Elahi said that he had devolved the Rescue 1122 service to small districts whereas medicines will be given free of cost in emergencies in all hospitals.
