Al-Azhar University, one of the oldest and most prestigious foundations of higher learning in Egypt, has reported plans to establish a campus in Pakistan. The move aims to encourage further, deeper educational ties between the two countries, advance ladies’ education, and extend comprehension of Islamic teachings and Arabic culture.

This announcement was made during a meeting between Pakistan’s Education Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Egypt’s Grand Mufti Nazir Mohamed Ayad in Islamabad on Friday. The collaboration is expected to essentially affect the educational landscapes of the two nations, offering new opportunities for students to explore diverse parts of Islamic studies and Arabic language proficiency.

Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui featured the profound historical and cultural ties between Egypt and Pakistan, both home to some of the world’s oldest civilizations.

He emphasized that Islam advocates for the training of all kinds of people, tending to misconceptions about any limitations on ladies’ education in Islam. The minister repeated the government’s dedication to giving equivalent educational opportunities to ladies, underscoring that their education is important for developing a progressive society.

Education Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani promised the Ministry of Education full help for the establishment of the Al-Azhar campus in Pakistan. He also featured that more than 2,000 female students from colleges and universities across the country have been welcome to go to attend the International Girls Conference.

Al-Azhar University is Egypt’s oldest degree-granting organization, known as “Sunni Islam’s university.” The institution is in charge of a nationwide system of schools that serve around 2 million students. Its primary aim is to spread Islam and Islamic culture, and it trains Egyptian government-appointed preachers in proselytization. In Egypt, its library ranks second only to the Egyptian National Library and Archives.
