Chief Minister of KP Sohail Afridi has unveiled an ambitious Rs 100 billion development package, which is designed to revive Peshawar’s historic charm while addressing its modern-day challenges. The new development project in Peshawar includes the rehabilitation of major roads such as Peshawar Ring Road, Jamrud Road, and GT Road.

According to Afridi, the missing link of the Ring Road will be inaugurated in January 2026, and residents will start seeing clear improvements across the city by June 2026.

The initiative will focus on fixing damaged roads, installing streetlights, improving traffic management, creating new green spaces, and adding sculptures to enhance the city’s appearance.

A comprehensive master plan for Peshawar is also being developed in consultation with local public representativesto ensure long-term urban improvement.

Calling Peshawar “the face of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa,” he stressed that the city’s development, beautification, and resolution of core civic issues “can no longer be delayed.”

The announcement was made during a high-level meeting attended by current and former MNAs and MPAs from Peshawar, along with senior political leaders. The gathering was not just ceremonial; it was focused on practical planning — how to turn big promises into visible change on the ground. Participants kept on discussing

  • Urban development plans
  • Improvement of civic infrastructure
  • Upgrades to public amenities in detail

Restoration of the historical status of Peshawar

CM Afridi reiterated that the provincial government is fully committed to restoring historical status of Peshawar as a vibrant cultural and economic hub. He said that the plan would prioritize:

• Mega infrastructure projects to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity

• Urban planning and zoning to manage unplanned growth

• Upgradation of civic services, including sanitation, lighting, public parks, and markets

• Beautification drives, especially in historic and commercial areas, to revive the city’s aesthetic appeal

“All available resources will be utilized to make renovations in Peshawar and change it into a modern, prosperous, and sustainable city,” the chief minister assured, and this strongly indicates that this is not a token initiative but a flagship agenda for his government.

Officials kept on explaining that the strategy is multifaceted. It includes

  • Road and transport upgrades
  • Rehabilitation of public spaces
  • Better access to basic services for residents.

Monitoring and accountability of projects

There will also be a strong emphasis on monitoring and accountability: progress on projects will be closely tracked through regular reviews and evaluations to avoid the delays and cost overruns that often plague large schemes.

For many residents, the Rs 100 billion package provides a sense of renewed hope — that Peshawar, with its centuries-old heritage and strategic importance, can once again become a city that is not only historically significant but also comfortable, efficient, and dignified to live in.
