The government of Pakistan has chosen to allow the commercial cultivation of hemp beginning in January 2025. This choice is pointed toward taking advantage of the tremendous worldwide market for hemp items, which is assessed to be worth billions of dollars.

The declaration was made by authorities from the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) during a gathering of the Senate standing panel on science and technology. As per the authorities, Pakistan can acquire up to $5–7 billion in foreign trade by sending out hemp items.

At present, Pakistan has a hemp development industry worth $5 billion; however, it has not been as expected used. To manage the industry, the government has endorsed the foundation of the Marijuana Control and Regulatory Authority (CCRA), which will be led by the Defense Secretary and incorporate agents from different services and policing.

The worldwide hemp market is huge, with more than 50 nations using hemp in pharmaceuticals. Pakistan has started hemp development on a two-section land site at Barani Agricultural University, prompting innovative work on different hemp items.

The CCRA will be responsible for giving licenses for business hemp cultivation and guaranteeing controlled development and handling of the crop to capitalize on the lucrative worldwide market.

This move by the Pakistani government is supposed to set out new economic opportunities and position the country as a vital participant in the quickly developing hemp industry.

The authorization of hemp development is also important for Pakistan’s system to differentiate its economy and lessen dependence on traditional cash crops like cotton and wheat. As the worldwide market for hemp keeps on expanding, Pakistan expects to situate itself as a central member of this emerging industry.

This improvement reflects a more extensive worldwide pattern where nations are progressively perceiving the financial and environmental advantages of hemp, prompting its legitimization and commercialization in different regions.
