The government has launched two mega security projects in Gwadar to surround Gwadar port and its surroundings with modern security systems and cutting-edge safety mechanisms in order to provide a deep sense of satisfaction for Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) officials, investors, traders, and local people.

The Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) initiated one security project, and the Balochistan government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Planning and Development, implemented the other.

Mr Muneer, GPA project director, told the media that the security project had been finalised after marathon brainstorming sessions, taking into account the internal and external security needs of all GPA offices.

According to the plans, 90 to 100 CCTV cameras will be installed on all entry and exit points of GPA offices. “We’ve also invited professional firms to participate in the bidding process, which will be completed on December 20,” he said. GPA will award contracts based on their technical, financial, and administrative strengths and capabilities, he said.

The Balochistan government has also unveiled another “security project,” dubbed the “Gwadar Safe City Project,” in collaboration with the Ministry of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives.

As per the Ministry of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives official, PC-1 of the Gwadar Safe City Project is being revised to make it more competitive and synergistic in response to pressing demands. He added that the project is expected to be completed next year.

He added that as many as 675 CCTV cameras will be installed in various parts of Gwadar as part of the project to secure the area. According to the official, during the meeting, the chief secretary Balochistan briefed the planning minister Ahsan Iqbal on the status of the project and informed the minister that the equipment for the project had already been procured.

In this regard, in January 2022, Chief Operating Officer Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) Muhammad Kamran Khan and Project Director Gwadar Safe City Shehzad Asif signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The PSCA technical team will visit the Gwadar Safe City project to assist with the installation of Safe Cities Cameras, Networking and Communication, and the establishment of a Command Center, according to the agreement. PSCA will also provide technical guidance for key positions in the Gwadar Safe City project.
