Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has earmarked Rs. 3.1 billion to construct the Akbar Chowk underpass and flyover.
According to an official release, Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi has laid the groundwork for the underpass and flyover project, which will relieve traffic congestion.
The underpass will be 540 metres long with two lanes, while the flyover will be 700 metres long with two lanes on both sides. Residents of Johar Town, Faisal Town, Kot Lakhpat, Township, and other nearby areas will benefit from the interchange.
Moreover, the new project will help the 100,000 automobiles passing through the area daily. It will result in significant cost and fuel savings.
An official announcement revealed that the city administration is working nonstop to complete several other major projects.
The project is likely to be accomplished within four months. The provincial minister issued special instructions to the LDA to ensure that the Akbar Chowk project is completed on time.
Five New Mega Development Projects in Lahore
According to the Punjab government, Lahore already has a robust infrastructure in place to tackle the problem of traffic congestion during rush hours on busy roads including Gulberg Main Boulevard, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, and Defence Main Boulevard. Numerous underpasses, flyovers, and signal-free corridors help keep commuters from getting stuck on the road.
However, with the five new mega-development initiatives in Lahore, it seems that provincial authorities are dedicated to offering citizens the greatest convenience in terms of intra-city mobility.
The decision to develop these megaprojects in Lahore came after numerous studies were conducted to identify the average vehicle circulation, public problems, traffic congestions, and environmental impact, as a result of which the following five sites were chosen to improve traffic flow:
• Sheranwala Gate
• Gulab Devi Hospital
• Lahore Bridge (Ferozepur Road)
• Shahkam Chowk
• Mall Road
